#43: “Operation Castration”
After Fidel Castro seized power in 1959, the United States launched a series of covert efforts to remove him, both politically and physically. One such operation, dubbed “Operation Castration,” was part of a broader CIA campaign that included at least eight bizarre assassination or sabotage attempts.

Among the most outlandish was a plan to plant an exploding seashell in waters Castro frequented while diving. Even more controversially, the operation proposed staging fake terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and blaming them on Cuba to build public support for a full-scale invasion.
